“After the bite, Suarez’s move to Barca wasn’t easy”

Instead of focussing on the Uruguayan’s great season so far at Atletico Madrid, Zubi recalled the player’s move to Barca and hinted at the fact several people at the club did not want him.

His arrival, after that bite, wasn’t easy. People were telling me that he didn’t play the Barca way or that he didn’t have movement,” Zubizarreta explained. He resigned halfway through the season Barca won their second treble.

“In the end, with his work and quality, he integrated into the team’s way of playing and with Leo and Ney,” Zubizarreta continued. He also bought much criticised players like Douglas: “There was also a process behind signing these players.”

With regards to Leo Messi, who could leave the team, Zubizarreta thinks the Argentine should have full power with regards to his future. “It’s a matter for him, he has the right to choose and it doesn’t have to be easy. Dealing with Leo isn’t difficult, completely the opposite.”
